How to achieve healthy weight loss and adopt a healthy diet, naturally

There’s over 1.6 billion overweight people in the world. It’s estimated that just in the US alone, $60 billion a year is spent on weight loss programs. We’ve all been there: You start eating healthy, and then before you know it, you’re back to your old habits and usually worse than before. We all know diets don’t work. The best way to safe weight loss and keeping it off is to adopt healthy eating habits. The trick is to eliminate the cravings so that you WANT to eat healthy food. I have an incredible story that I want to share with you on how I pretty much lost all my cravings for bad food overnight. And you know what? It wasn’t even that difficult.

In January 2014, my friend Mona introduced me to a local food company called Conscious Planet. I went to an information session and I was amazed at how Charles presented his talk on health and food, based on 25 years of research. It was explained in a way that I had never heard before. I thought I had been adopting a fairly healthy lifestyle up until that point and I was shocked to hear all of the information he had found. Valuable information that isn’t taught to us anywhere, such as in schools or by Health Canada.

One of the things Charles explained that was the most interesting to me was how food should really be viewed as being alkaline or acidic. Up until that point, I had been mostly been following what most people do, which is just eating less fat and less carbs. After viewing the food chart he showed and explained, I realized I needed a lot more greens in my diet. I was surprised to learn that foods I thought that were “healthy”, such as chicken, eggs, and even bananas, weren’t really that healthy at all. So I started focusing on eating more raw alkaline foods, mostly by eating blender soups and green smoothies. And I incorporated Conscious Planet’s basic disgestion pack (probiotics, enzymes and a gentle laxative) into my routine to start cleaning out the toxins from my gut. I also started having hemp shakes as a healthy protein alternative to a lot of the animal products I was eating at the time.

I was on this regimen for about 6 weeks and I was feeling great. My stomach started to shrink and my energy levels went up significantly. I was craving less “bad” foods and I had a lot more free time because I was eating more raw foods and spending a lot less of my time cooking.

Then in February 2014, I went on a big trip to Brazil with a girlfriend of mine. We went to Rio de Janeiro for Carnival and we had the time of our lives. When I first arrived there, I made a big effort to continue the healthy green diet I was on. I was disappointed to find that there was very little fresh produce available and the food was actually pretty bad. By the end of the trip, I had abandoned my healthy habits and was drinking, smoking, not sleeping much, and eating lots of fried foods, carbs and meat.

When I got back home to Vancouver, I missed all of my favorite foods. The food in Rio was so limited that I wanted to eat every single kind of Asian food I could think of. Within a week of coming back from my trip, I had eaten Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese and Thai food. I had ordered all different types of dishes and was eating up to 3 differents kinds of meat and seafood in just one meal. At first, it felt great. However, I wasn’t ready for what was about to happen next.

One day, about a week after coming home from my trip, I woke up with a painful red bump on my stomach. It was about an inch in diamater and it was extremely painful to touch. I could barely move and my entire body felt feverish. I called Charles to ask him what he thought it was and he immediately told me that it was Candida. Candida is a fungus and it thrives in an acidic environment. Caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, sugar, wheat and cooked foods are all very acidic. I had been having a lot of these things in the previous month. And I was probably even more sensitive to the acidity of it because I had been so healthy and cleansing before that. Charles recommended that I start doing a cleanse immediately.

He recommended that I do the Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush, a cleanse developed by a German fellow named Andreas Moritz. I was desperate to get healthy again, so I jumped right in. It involved 2 weeks of prep work and products, and then a 2-day flush and cleanse at the end. It actually wasn’t too difficult of process to go through, and Charles was there with me, coaching me the entire time.

The morning after I woke up from the cleanse, I felt great. One of the first thoughts that popped into my head that day was “I don’t want to eat meat.” It was a very strong thought and I wasn’t able to get it out of my head. I was surprised by it because I had never thought of becoming a vegetarian before. The feeling stuck with me and eventually I developed an aversion to all dairy and egg products as well. Within only a few months of following the Conscious Planet program, I had become a strict vegan. I am not suggesting that this is the right lifestyle for everyone, however it is what happened to me. I do suggest, though, that incorporating more vegetarian meals into your diet will help you to lose weight drastically.

The most important thing I want to share from you about this story is about how I changed my relationship with food. I went from struggling to eat enough vegetables, to loving vegetables so much that I really don’t feel full and complete without it. I love all of the healthy foods I eat and I still treat myself to sweets and cooked foods in moderation.

In my upcoming blog posts, I will explain more about what Charles shares about in his food talks and how you can start reducing your “bad food” cravings naturally. Achieving healthy weight loss doesn’t need to be difficult. It’s all about getting away from the word “diet” and instead adopting a long-term healthy lifestyle eating foods that you love.
