This Sunday night and early Monday morning, there will be a rare phenomenon happening in the night sky that has not occured since 1982, nor will it happen again for another 18 years in the year 2033. In my previous blog post on March 20th, I wrote about another rare phenomenon (Total Solar Eclipse, Supermoon and Spring Equinox) that also won’t happen again for a while, until 2034. This time, the astronomical events that will be happening together will be a Supermoon and a Total Lunar Eclipse (also known as Blood Moon).
What is a Supermoon?
What is a Total Lunar Eclipse?
A Total Lunar Eclipse (also known as Blood Moon) is when the the Earth’s orbit falls directly between the orbit of the moon and the sun. The Earth blocks all of the sun’s rays onto the moon, although the Earth’s atmosphere refracts sunlight onto the moon, making it appear red, or brownish.
The occurrence of a Supermoon and Total Lunar eclipse together is quite rare, and in the 1900s only occurred 5 times – in 1901, 1928, 1946, 1964, and 1982.
Some people believe that this could be the end of the world as we know it. Many religious leaders explain that tomorrow’s “Supermoon/Blood-Moon” is the fourth one in a row, with the 3 previous ones having occurred on April 14, 2014, October 8, 2014 and April 4, 2015.
Some people explain that this was predicted in the bible as the apocalypse, and that this 4th Supermoon/Blood-Moon on September 28, 2015 will be the end of the world as we know it. They also explain that all four of these Supermoon/Blood-Moons occur on Jewish holidays, and that similar astrological events in the past coincided with Jewish suffering.
Most of us are quite skeptical of this “prediction”, as it is not the first time we have heard it. We all remember when it was predicted that in the year 2000 all chaos would break loose, and well, it never did. And also in year 2012 the world was also supposed to end, when in fact it was just the end of an “age”. In fact, many people have reported the beginnings of their spiritual awakenings around this time, which then suggests that 2012 was the end humanity as we knew it (unawakened), and then began a spiritual shift, or awakening.
When four Supermoon/Blood-Moons occur in a row, it is called a Lunar Tetrad. This “tetrad” is also quite rare. There are some 300 year periods when they don’t occur at all, and other centuries where they occur many times. The 21st century will have 8 lunar tetrads, the maximum number of lunar tetrads that can occur in a century. The last time this happened was in the 9th century!
So how does this affect us?
Since the end of 2012, many people have experienced the beginning of a spiritual awakening. And at times like these, when big astrological events occur, emotions and shifts in consciousness can be intensified.
Many people will experience heightened sense of intuition, extremely strong determination and willpower to expand and learn. In order to achieve this huge shift in growth, there will also be a need to shed and release the old, outdated parts of the ego. It’s important to just “let go”. Some people will fight this urge, and others will embrace it; hence, there will be a disparity and “push-pull” that may be felt around the world.
At this time, it is helpful for you to open your heart, and to just “allow.” Slow down, be kind to yourself, and take the time to reflect. As I usually do around big astronomical events like this, I will be celebrating and opening up tonight with a Cacao journey, guided meditation and breathwork. I always experience an overwhelming sense of gratitude and love during these sacred evenings. And lately I have started to experience visions, bright colours and vivid dreams. If you have the space to do it, allow yourself some quiet time and meditation over the next couple of days.

***UPDATE: Actually the Supermoon/Blood Moon will appear on the evening of Sunday, September 27, 2015 – I incorrectly stated this as September 28th in the post title, as many of my cited sources listed as the latter date. Best times to view the Lunar eclipse are 7:30-8:30pm PST and 10:30-11:30pm EST. Enjoy!!
